Shel's CI Adventures

Hi, Everyone, and WELCOME! :O) ... On April 28th, 2005, I was implanted with a "Bionic Ear" from Advanced Bionics! My activations will be on June 7th, 9th, and 16th! I created this blog so I could share my experiences with all of you, as well as keep a record of them for myself! I hope you enjoy reading about them -- thanks for sharing this incredible miracle with me! :O)

hello, and thanks, everyone, for your support and well-wishes! ... Since I got home Thursday -- between running around shopping with my mom, I've been pretty tired and kinda dizzy, so I've been resting as much as I can. ... Today Mom took my bandage off, and we re-attached the arm on my glasses! ... I'm not having much pain -- just at night when I have my head against the pillow in the recliner -- otherwise it's just a little sore and swollen, yet. ... I think the worst part for me was taking the tape off of my face and head and hair! OW!! ... Oh, and not being able to blow my nose! ... I'm amused by all the different types of tinnitis sounds that have been manifesting intermittantly in my left ear -- low rings and medium rings and high rings and morse-code taps! ... Well, God Bless You All for sharing this with me! Many hugs! ... Shelly

I'm Home!

I'm home and doing well! :O) ... I now have a bionic ear! :O) ... The surgery went really well, and I recovered pretty quickly! :O) ... I have a big bandage on my head which I can remove on Sat. afternoon -- I had to take the left arm off of my glasses so I can wear them! :O) ... I'm going to try sleeping on my recliner tonight ... I think the chair will be the most comfortable, since I need my head to be propped up. :O) ... I'm HOPING to be able to go to Mass tomorrow ... but we'll see how I'm feeling in the morning, since the day after surgery is usually the worst. :O/

The Night Before Implantation

I'm going to be getting a cochlear implant tomorrow at Johns Hopkins! :O) ... This should improve my hearing to the level of just a mild hearing loss! :O) ... It will take up to a year or more, though, for me to learn to hear with it and get the full benefit -- but I'm confident that I'll do really well with it! :O) ... I should be able to come home tomorrow afternoon -- Friday morning, for sure ... I'll write and let you know how it went when I feel like sitting at my computer, again! :O) ... I'd appreciate any prayers you'd say for me! :O) ... You're in MY thoughts and prayers! :O) ... Thanks! :O) ... May God bless! :O)
